At least now pretty much everyone is in at 6/7ish.

I agree that postal votes are a massive help. Pretty much everyone has access to a postbox, and with good organisation turnout goes up massively (look at the results for all-postal ballots so far). There's a reason Tories have been claiming they cause fraud: it's because they increase turnout and make things more difficult for them.

Other than that, introducing firmer limits on the number of hours that can be worked per week and day might help - you're much more likely to stay in if you get home after dark & you're tired to boot.

One very important thing is to completely resist any moves towards electronic voting. 40% of people in the UK still don't have internet access in their homes, and broadband isn't as common as we thing either. We don't want to make it even easier for middle-class people to vote over working class people.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33451096.post-11318604957080013162007-04-02T16:01:00.000+00:002007-04-02T16:01:00.000+00:00Postal votes can be posted any day of the week - e...Postal votes can be posted any day of the week - encourage people (if they're Labour voters) to use postal votes...Hughes Viewshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01192390547169979749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33451096.post-18651585139619934952007-04-02T15:24:00.000+00:002007-04-02T15:24:00.000+00:00Yes, though it would be a nuisance for parents who...Yes, though it would be a nuisance for parents who currently vote after taking their kids to school when the polling station is close by. But this is probably a smaller number than those who go to work and don't want to go back out to vote once they've got in.donpaskinihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05963534291677598324noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33451096.post-12805914872603326412007-04-02T15:17:00.000+00:002007-04-02T15:17:00.000+00:00Isn't this a case for having a General Election Ba...Isn't this a case for having a General Election Bank Holiday?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
