A heart-warming anecdote
In conversation today, I heard about the experience of a new teacher in London:
"She teaches in one of those inner city schools which are flush with cash now. They qualify under all the different projects, so if they ask for anything they just get it. She says that it is really rewarding teaching there and she really thinks she can make a difference".
When I was growing up, there were many phrases used to describe inner city schools, but 'flush with cash' and 'any new equipment they want, they just get it' were not amongst them. Back then, people used to say that things would be different if only Labour were in charge rather than the Tories.
And they were, um, right.
